Utrecht Natural gas vehicle campaign

In the Utrecht natural gas vehicle campaign (2007-2011), at least eight natural gas filling stations will be realized within the province. Approximately 2,500 natural gas vehicles will be purchased as a result of a marketing campaign involving demonstration events, a variety of media, contact with at least 150 fleet owners and the involvement of car dealers and the fuel sector.

These results will provide the province of Utrecht with an excellent core infrastructure for launching natural gas vehicles and preparing for the introduction of biogas in the transport sector. The province thus aims to improve air quality and reduce climate emissions within a competitive business environment.

The main challenge is building the first natural gas filling stations on time, so that natural gas vehicles can operate and set an example for other fleet owners. To achieve this, we established a strong network of natural gas filling station operators, local filling station owners, interested fleet owners and municipalities. We provided both process and technical support and helped develop financial instruments.

In the period before and after the opening of a filling station, an intensive campaign, involving media, direct contact and peer group communication is launched to target fleet owners.
