The Gold Standard version 2
The Gold Standard Version 2 has been launched on 1 August 2008. The Gold Standard is a certification scheme for voluntary and compliance carbon credits. It only accepts renewable energy and energy efficiency projects that actively promote sustainable development. The Gold Standard Foundation is endorsed by over 60 non-governmental organizations worldwide. The Gold Standard Version 2 (GSV2) combines the certification requirements for all users. In addition to that, it introduces a separate Toolkit with examples, templates and detailed guidelines for project applicants. The GSV2 improves the transparency of the validation and verification process.

Ecofys analysed developments in the carbon market, all queries coming in at the Gold Standard secretariat and bottlenecks in the registration process. Based on this analysis Ecofys developed an easy to use and to update structure for the rules and guidance. Once that was done, Ecofys made changes in the rules and added specific examples and instructions for different users.

Within this project Ecofys was responsible for:

  • Analysis of requirements
  • Introducing an easy updatable structure, attractive design and understandable language for improved user-friendliness.
  • Advising on changes in rules, in accordance with the technical advisory committee of the Gold Standard
  • Managing input on requirements and legal check of TÜV-SÜD and FIELD
  • Facilitation of the public comment at Carbon Expo in Koln
  • Organising a peer review
  • Assisting the Gold Standard with the launch.
