Energy demand scenarios for Greenpeace/EREC Energy [r]evolution

We developed global low energy demand scenarios for use in updating the Greenpeace/EREC Energy [r]evolution study in 2008. This report was the basis for the launch of a campaign (including press conferences, a website where the reports can be downloaded and presentations for policy makers).

Client

Greenpeace/EREC

Area of expertise

Sustainable energy, climate change, energy efficiency

The study consisted of final energy demand scenarios for 10 world regions. We developed three scenarios:

  • One reference scenario, in which current trends continue (the baseline scenario)
  • One technical scenario, in which technical potentials for energy-efficiency improvement are implemented
  • One [r]evolution scenario (representing evolution and/or revolution), in which the technical potentials are implemented to a certain degree, taking into account economic barriers.

The scenarios, which run from 2005-2050, cover final energy demand per sector in terms of industry, buildings and transport.
