Partners from Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Spain and the Netherlands worked together to improve the energy performance of schools and disseminate best practices. The project partners performed Energy Performance Assessments (EPAs) in 90 schools, producing advice on how to improve energy performance. Recommended measures included both technical and organisational changes.
After Energy Performance Assessments of 90 school buildings in five countries, a series of measures were described in an action plan for each school (594 in total), The investment was €5.2 million and annual energy savings of €640,000 were made (table 1).
Pupils were involved in implementing energy-saving measures through a programme based on a common educational methodology Results were disseminated both by the project partners and by the pupils. A brochure entitled Support model for implementation of energy-saving measures in schools illustrates the barriers at each step and ways to overcome them.
