Solar energy

The sun is an inexhaustible source of energy that can be exploited for a wide range of applications. ‘Passive’ solar energy is the use of constructional such as conservatories to provide solar heating. But solar energy can also be applied in active ways. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, using a process known as photovoltaic (PV) solar energy or solar electricity, while solar water heaters convert sunlight into heat, using solar thermal energy to power hot water systems in buildings. Solar electricity can also be generated in solar thermal power plants, using concentrated solar power (CSP).

At Ecofys we offer a wide range of services in the field of solar energy, from preliminary studies to project implementation. We specialize in initiating and developing solar energy projects. We also carry out strategic studies as well as technical and economic feasibility studies. We advise developers, housing corporations, governments, banks, the solar energy industry and non-profit organizations, among other stakeholders.

Solar energy in the built environment

For both new construction projects and for existing buildings, we support a range of stakeholders in the construction chain who are involved in installing photovoltaic stems.

Large-scale solar energy

We offer a variety of services to stakeholders in large-scale solar projects.

Thermal solar energy

For new construction projects and for upgrading existing buildings, we provide support during the installation of solar thermal systems.

Solar drying

Solar drying of agricultural products is a promising market, especially for those crops that are mechanically dried at lower temperatures. Ecofys has build up experience in this area.
